Rose "Betty" Massa (Doeker)
Rose Elizabeth (Betty) Doeker Massa , age 92 of Cookeville, TN was welcomed to her heavenly home Friday, May 4, 2018 from her home in Cookeville.
She was born September 8, 1925 in Covington, KY to the late Albert Doeker and the late Rose (Longstreet) Doeker. Her family moved to Louisville, KY where she completed her education and graduated from the University of Louisville with a BA in Foreign Languages.
At the U of L she met James (Jimmy) Dillard Massa, a Cookeville native. He was attending the V-12 program for sailors preparing to fight in WWII. They fell in love and married in August, 1947. They moved to Cookeville after living in Kansas City, MO for 2 years.
Betty has been a faithful servant, “living for Jesus” throughout her life as a daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. Besides loving her family, she was a friend to many, a teacher to young women, a help to her neighbors and to those she met in everyday life. She was pleased to invite friends and those who needed a friend to share time together in her home-always quick to think of others and what she could do for them. She has written thousands of notes and letters to speak love and encouragement into many people’s lives. Throughout her life she has been active at First Baptist Church, where she also served as church secretary for a couple of decades. Late in life she enjoyed singing with her friends in the Happy Tones. During this last year, she was grateful for her personal caregiver and all those who served her from Kindred Hospice.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jimmy, and survived by their children Sarah and Ronnie Key, Mark and Sharon Massa, Michael and Nancy Massa, Rachel Cunningham, 14 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Gathering for Mrs. Massa will be held Friday, May 11, 2018 at 4:00p.m. at First Baptist Church of Cookeville. The family will receive friends from 2:00-4:00 p.m. prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers - love God and love one another.
