Joan Oswalt (Kowal)
On Saturday, June 23, 2018 Joan K. Oswalt of Cookeville, TN was re-united with the love of her life, Handley C. (Ozzie) Oswalt when she died unexpectedly at her home. She was born on February 9, 1934 in Waynesboro, Va. the daughter of the late Walter J. Kowal and Clara Patrick Fitzgerald Kowal. She was the twin sister of Jean K. Wheeler who is also deceased. She leaves behind 3 children to cherish her memory, Lori Oswalt (David Rubin); Cheri Oswalt (Dale Sillyman); and John Oswalt (Barbara Oswalt). She had 9 grandchildren: Nick, Sam, Alex, Brittany, Jake, Josh, Libby, Ben, and Caroline. She had 3 great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind many friends, some from her earliest days, and others just made, but all touched by her in some way. Through the years and up to the waning days of her life, these friends remained by her side. Joan was many things to many people; a loyal friend, a trusted confidant, and a dispenser of sound common-sense advice. Most importantly though, she was a dutiful and dedicated daughter and sister, a loving and supportive wife, a kind and devoted mother, and a doting and adoring grandmother. She was a complex woman with a simple and humble manner that could conceal a quick wit and a rich sense of humor. She possessed a natural and effortless intelligence that gave her remarkable insights into human nature and life in general. She gave love and warmth to those around her freely and she reaped incalculable amounts of love and warmth in return. Till the end of her days, she remained steadfast in her faith and secure in the knowledge she and Ozzie would meet on the far side of Jordan where their love for each other will continue.
