Mr. Jim Cryer, 78 of Cookeville, Tennessee passed from this life Wednesday, January 9, 2019, at Signature Health Care of Putnam County in Algood, Tennessee.

He was born Sunday, June 16, 1940, in Hartselle, Alabama. He was the son of the late Norman and Geneva (Eveans) Cryer.
Mr. Cryer attended Trinity Assembly in Algood, He also attended high school at S.R. Butler High School in Huntsville, Alabama from (1954-1958), Lee College in Cleveland, Tennessee, Calhoun State in Decatur Alabama, and Snead State Community College in Boaz, Alabama where he earned an associate degree in Applied Science (1974-1976). His Military War Record included: United States Navy - QMz/c, E-5, DD652 - USS Ingersoll (1959-1963). Mr. Cryer was a retired Postmaster after serving 29 years in which he was a City Carrier (1963-1974), Superintendent of Postal Operations EAS-16 (1974-1978) and Postmaster in various locations such as Lake Village, Arkansas, Pulaski, Tennessee, and Cookeville, Tennessee (1978-1992). After retiring, Jim Cryer worked for H&R Block as an Office Manager (1997-2010). He was Youth Football Coach and Sports Referee for 14 years. Other accomplishments in his life were: Cookeville Kiwanis Club in Cookeville, TN, VFW in Sparta, TN, American Legion, NAPUS, National Association of Postmasters (Tennessee Chapter), American Association of Retired Persons, National Association of Retired Federal Employees, and White Plains Homeowners Association.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister and brother-in-law: Patricia and Hoyt Powell.
Funeral services for Mr. Cryer will be held Sunday, January 13, 2019 beginning at 3:00 PM from the Chapel of Crest Lawn Funeral Home, with Pastor Mike Campbell officiating.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday, January 13, from 1:00 PM until time of service at 3:00 PM.
