ALGOOD — Brian Manginelli, 61, of Algood, Tennessee, passed away at his residence Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2019, after a brief illness.

He was born April 14, 1957, at the Cross County Hospital in Yonkers, New York, to Concetta Joy (Iannucci) and the late Edward J. Manginelli. He graduated from Smithtown West High School (Smithtown, New York) in 1975.

In addition to his father, Brian was preceded in death by his brother, Eddie; brother-in-law, Ed; stepson, Bobby; and father-in-law, Stanley.

Those who were fortunate enough to know and love Brian can attest to the many characteristics that made him who he was.

First, family was everything for Brian. He was a loving, devoted, always protective, mostly hilarious, and sometimes annoying father to Amber Shae (Jason Dashiell) and Victoria Rose (Chris Delgado); stepfather to Bobby Davis, Justin Davis, Christopher Davis, Emily Munsey (Jimmy), and Aaron Davis; husband to the love of his life, Ann; brother to Pat Wilson (Ed), Eddie Manginelli (Dennis Giordano), and Joyce Russ (Paul); son to Edward and Joy; uncle to Eddie Wilson (Tammie), David Wilson, Paul Russ, Daniel Russ, Clinton Savage, and Kayla Garrett; brother-in-law to Jean Savage (Chris); and son-in-law to Barbara Neal. He was known as Pops to his grandchildren Hayden, Kayden, Gabriel and Eleanore, and they were his pride and joy. Brian's role as Pops extended to Willa, Jax and Mae. Brian also counted his cats — Dottie, Penelope, Oscar and Sam — as dearly loved and valued members of the family.

Second, Brian was a friend to everyone. He truly did not know a stranger, and many were the beneficiaries of his acts of kindness. He could be counted on when needed for everything from fixing a flat tire to lending a sympathetic ear and giving a real-world pep talk.

Third, Brian loved his job and was absolutely dedicated to it. Over the years, Brian did many things but most of his time was spent with the Herald-Citizen, where he was a carrier from 1987-2018. In 2018, he accepted the position of District Manager and continued in that position until the time of his passing. Brian loved all the people he worked with and the customers he served, and he counted Keith McCormick and Paul Cook as brothers and friends.

Finally, Brian possessed a larger that life personality that was evident in his sense of humor, colorful language, ability to fix anything, love of a good conspiracy theory and all things Buddy Holly, and his persistent, radiating smile.

It was Brian's wish that no formal service be held, and he chose cremation. Crest Lawn Funeral Home of Cookeville was in charge of arrangements. If desired, memorial donations may be made to the local Avalon Hospice office at 1080 Neal Street, #800, Cookeville (the loving providers of Brian's in-home care) or Mountain Faith Mission of Haiti, PO Box 433, Sparta, TN 38583, (mission work Brian supported through his wife Ann.)

To Mr. Manginelli's family,
I'm so saddened to read of his passing. He was truly a bright soul full of personality. I'm just an aquantaince with him from many years of eye exams and picking up children at Avery Trace. He always spoke of his family, so eventhough I have not met all of you, I knew the love and joy that he spoke of you and knew how much his family meant to him. I will send prayers your way because we will all miss his laugh and smile. Sherry Wilmoth(Dr. Epley's office & ECOTN)
