Celebration of Life for Margaret will be held Saturday, November 23, 2019, at 11:00 am at First United Methodist Church with Dr. Kevin Conrad officiating. Visitation will be held at 10:00 am until the time of service.
Mrs. Phipps passed away on Wednesday, November 20, 2019, in Cookeville, Tennessee. She was born on December 17, 1925, and raised at Lock 6 on The Cumberland River in Hartsville, Tennessee. She was the only child of the late Robert Phillip and Mary "Corrine" (Marlin) Dickens. While studying Home Economics at Tennessee Polytechnic Institute ( now Tennessee Technological University, Cookeville, Tennessee) she met the love of her life, Perry Lee Phipps, whom she married in August of 1948 and spent the rest of her life as a dedicated wife and mother and avid homemaker in Cookeville, Tennessee She was a member of Cookeville First United Methodist Church since her marriage in 1948 and assisted with their Youth Programs for several years. She was a member of The Eastern Star. She was dedicated to living her life based on Christian principles, generosity, graciousness, and "Southern manners, values, and hospitality". She was an excellent seamstress, cook, and hostess and enjoyed entertaining for many "Brides-to-Be" and her husband's business associates. She enjoyed traveling and seeing the world and was an avid collector of beautiful treasures.
Her survivors include her loving son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Carrie Phipps; a First Cousin, Laura Dell Spence; and a Sister-in-Law, Ruth Phipps.
In addition to her parents, Margaret was preceded in death by, Husband, Perry Lee Phipps, August 2012.
Honorary Pallbearers are Evelyn Bartlett, Betty Hardison, Evon Hicks, Mary Ann Huffines, Shirley Mackie, Teresa McNabb, Janie Palk, and Ruth Phipps.
The Family would like to extend special thanks to the Staff at The Cottage at Heritage Pointe Senior Living for their excellent care of Mrs. Phipps.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Music Scholarship Fund at Cookeville First United Methodist Church, 165 East Broad Street, Cookeville, Tennessee, 38501.
During a private family gathering, Mrs. Phipps will be entombed at Crest Lawn Memorial Cemetery - Mausoleums, Cookeville, Tennessee, next to her beloved husband, Perry.
